Opening of the India- EU study centre at IIT Madras, Chennai
Six grants awarded to consortia of universities for the establishment of new EU-India study centres.
In the framework of the India-EU study programme, 6 grants have been awarded to consortia of universities for the establishment of new EU-India study centres. Four of these centres will be established in India (Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Manipal) and two in the EU (Aarhus, Denmark and Warsaw, Poland).
On 20 January 2010 IIT Madras inaugurated "Centre for comparative EU Studies" at IIT Campus, Chennai. This centre will focus on globalisation, and International Relations and Democracy as its two major thrust areas.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Head of Departments of IIT Madras, representatives of partner universities and representatives of the Delegation of European Union to India. Speeches were given by Prof. V G Idichandy (Deputy Director, IIT Madras), Mr. Fernando Nino Page (Head of the Economic Cooperation Section of the Delegation) Dr. S Padmanabhan (Asst. Professor, Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Madras)
After the inauguration, a joint workshop of all Study Centres was organised. Representatives of all the Study Centres (existing as well as new) participated in this workshop.
